“i GALLERY OSAKA” is a contemporary art gallery located in the historic Semba Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street.
This area, which developed as a merchants’ town during the construction of Osaka Castle, now serves as a venue where a fresh wave of culture is introduced.
The gallery aims to showcase a diverse range of artistic expressions, including urban art, lowbrow art, pop art, and photography, all rooted in street culture.
The interior design, created by architectural designer Yusuke Seki, transforms the newly constructed building within the shopping street into an extraordinary space. The concept incorporates the beauty found in the aging and weathering of street environments. Bold structures are added to the minimalistic space, offering a unique experience where art and the environment resonate with each other.
The logo design was crafted by artist Eric Elms, renowned for his deep understanding of street culture. The theme of the design is “container,” symbolizing the idea that the gallery continuously evolves, adapting its form based on the exhibitions and visitors. The central “i” serves as the core, with brackets such as {}and[]used to represent a modular system that encapsulates diverse information and expressions, creating a flexible platform for art.
