At i GALLERY OSAKA, we are pleased to present a solo exhibition by the artist unit STOMACHACHE., “WE ARE STOMACHACHE! 2025.”

STOMACHACHE. is a singular artist unit that constructs worlds from familiar materials. The grainy textures of a photocopier, lines dashed across a notebook, domestic motifs──they have elevated those modest fragments into universal narratives.

Nobue Miyazaki (Nagoya) and Tomoe Miyazaki (Tokyo), sisters living in different places, have continued to sustain sensibilities that resonate across distance. Being apart is not a lack; rather, by placing side by side 「two gazes rooted in different environments」, STOMACHACHE.’s work has acquired a distinctive depth.

Their works radiate a rare intensity born in the interstice between humor and urgency. Centered on painting, the works presented here extend across media, reassembling familiar fragments within a new order. Inscribed therein is a visual language for translating personal memories into universal experience.

While this exhibition bears the same title as their early show, it signifies not a retrospective but a fresh departure. A dialogue sustained over 21 years rises up as 「the form of this very moment」, inviting you to touch its layers of time.

i GALLERY OSAKA presents this exhibition not as an archive, but as a site of generation. STOMACHACHE.’s practice resonates across time, emerging as a language for shaping the future.

STOMACHACHE.

"STOMACHACHE. Started its activities in Osaka in 2004.

Inspired by the magazine “relax,” we started making zines using a Kinko’s copy machine. We had so much fun leaving our creations in various CD shops that we started drawing lots of pictures and making zines.

In 2006, we held our first exhibition as STOMACHACHE., titled “WE ARE STOMACHACHE!,” in an area at Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts, when we were still both university students.

It took the two of us about a week to bring in all the items and create the space. It was a lot of fun, and we are still proud of how well it turned out.

2025 – this time, we have chosen the same title as the previous one. This is an exhibition of the 2025 version of STOMACHACHE.

We now live in different places and only see each other a few times a year. The styles of our works have also both changed.

There are many things that have changed, but we think there are also some things that have remained the same.

STOMACHACHE. is the artist duo formed by sisters Nobue Miyazaki (b. July 17, 1984, Tokushima / based in Nagoya) and Tomoe Miyazaki (b. July 18, 1986, Tokushima / based in Tokyo).

Inheriting the DIY spirit of their father—a former pastor who built his own house—the two have developed a multidisciplinary practice encompassing illustration, zines, embroidery, painting, and woodworking. Grounded in the intimacy of everyday life, their works transform familiar materials and images into narratives that resonate with universal experience.

Though now living and working in different cities, the sisters continue to sustain a practice that resonates across distance, moving fluidly between the realms of the personal and the collective, the domestic and the artistic.
